Charles Elmer Oberg was the seventh child of Nels and Selma Oberg, born in 1877. He was born Carl Hjalmer, but changed his name to Charles Elmer at some point. In 1900, at age 23, he was still living at home on Colfax Street and occupation was listed as an upholsterer. On 28 Aug 1905 he married Levina Rosina Stoneberg from Warren, PA. Levina was Julia Stoneberg's sister and Julia married Peter Henry Oberg, Charles' brother. The marriage took place in Mayville, NY. In 1910 they were living at 107 Palm Avenue in Warren, PA (near the hospital), in the same house as Henry and Julia. His occupation was listed as bookkeeper, but we don't know for what company.

We believe that he moved to Caledonia, NY around 1914 and became the plant manager of the Nedrow Company, later bought out by the H.E. Holbrook Co. of Boston, MA. Nedrow made screen doors, windows and post office equipment. They once outfitted the US Marine Hospital in Portland, ME with door and window screens in 1916. The 3 story, 50 x 100 foot, Nedrow building burned in 1928 and was not rebuilt.

By 1920 Charles and Levina had had three children named Paul, Charles and James. But in 1923 Charles senior passed away unexpectedly at the age of 46 after a short illness. He was still manager of the Holbrook Co. in Caledonia.

Charles Oberg's three sons: Paul Martin Oberg (1906-1964) was draftsman in a steel manufacturing plant. Charles E. Oberg (1911-1992) lived in Ohio, California and later Texas working for the C. F. Braun and Co. (refinery construction). James L. Oberg (1917-2000) studied to be a metallurgist and worked developing welding methods. James also served in Pacific Fleet as a Naval Lieutenant during WWII. Later he held executive positions with M and T Chemicals, American Can Co. and for 12 years was the president of Smith & Wesson Company.
