General info:
Emma was born in the family home at 82 Colfax Street in 1881. As a young girl she attended old School No. 5 at the corner of McKinley and Charles Streets in Jamestown, NY. In the summer of 1903 at age 22 she traveled to visit a sister (Jennie Elizabeth we think) in Sandstone, MN. There she met Bernt Moe (he had immigrated from Norway) and they were married the following year. They were still in Sandstone in 1905.
By 1910 Emma and Bernt had returned to Jamestown and resided at Mahon Place in Allen Park. Bernt was a tailor, by trade like Nels Henrik. He worked at a tailor shop (a partnership of Jaderstron, Lundquist and Moe)at East Second and Main Streets. Later he had his own shop at 110 Main Street, a block down from the Proudfit Store. In 1913 Bernt Moe traveled to Norway with Martin Luther Oberg as they were both listed on a returning ship passenger list (SS Kristianiafjord) going from Norway to NYC. They left August 27, 1913 and arrived in New York City on September 9, 1913.
In 1914 the Moes bought (in partnership with Charles Lundquist) a 7 passenger Hudson touring car and became a well traveled family, even taking the car with them on a trip overseas. In April 1920 they taveled to Norway and Sweden and brought son Arnold along (see picture on right). By 1920 they had built a new home at 325 Forest Avenue, across the street from Althea Oberg Lawson. They were still there in 1930.
Emma and Bernt lived in Royal Oak, MI from 1940 until 1964 when Bernt passed on. Emma then lived with her daughter Ruth Moe Porter also in Royal Oak, Michigan. We do not know the exact date of her return to Jamestown, NY.
