Peter Magnus Månsson was instrumental in helping son-in-law Nels Henrik Oberg and daughter Selma Charlotta Oberg emigrate to the US in 1872. He apparently arranged for the financing of the trip through the church and also secured employment for Nels at the Proudfit Clothing Company as a tailor.

Peter Magnus Månsson and Fredricka Månsdotter had emigrated earlier to the United States on April 4, 1868 and settled in Jamestown, NY. He probably had a lot to do with the Oberg family 'homestead' being established in Jamestown. Peter Magnus Månsson, who used the name P. Magnus Rubin (pronounced Rubeen) in the US, was a pillar in the First Lutheran Church and with his beautiful penmanship kept the church records. Peter's and Fredricka's church records state that they were members since October 11, 1868. He was paid $30 a year by the church to pump the church organ bellows.

Peter was listed as a laborer at age 71 in the 1880 census but we don't know his exact occupation. Fredricka Rubin was listed as a nurse of children at age 51. That census also showed two young children living with them, Louisa Samson age 6, and Sigrid J. Carlson age 1 (probably under the care of Fredricka). They lived at 254 Willard Street.

We are now in possession of documentation, thanks to a distant cousin in Sweden (related to Måns Hansson), that traces Peter's ancestral line back to the late 1300's.
