Thanks to the family memories put down by Robert S. Oberg (Peter Henry's son) we know a little about Axel. He was a large man and a bit "brusque" in nature. He apparently had a fondness for the spirits and every so often would drop out of sight for awhile to indulge. He worked at the municipal power plant in Jamestown. One of his duties was to blow the plant curfew whistle at 9:00 PM in the evening. Every Jamestown parent had their children convinced that they had to be home before that curfew whistle blew. Later in life Axel worked as a fireman for Empire Case Goods Co. in Jamestown (1926).

Axel's wife was named Anna. Her maiden name was Sundberg. They may have lived for awhile in her native Pennsylvania prior to 1913.

Axel died fairly young at age 58. His obituary mentioned that he was survived by a son, Walter S. Johnson, of Okulmugee, OK. We believe that Walter was Anna's son from a previous marriage to a Reuben Johnson from Buffalo, NY, where Walter was born on 19 July 1892. Walter passed on 30 May 1943 in Jamestown, NY and is buried in soldiers circle, Lakeview Cemetery. Walter was married to Sally [maiden name unknown] and had three children: Joan, Marie and Frederick.

After Axel's death she continued on in their residence at 21 Highland Avenue until 1953. She later remarried to John Nelson. She passed away on 28 May 1956. Anna is buried next to Axel in Lakeview Cemetery but her death date was never added to the headstone shared with Axel.
