General info:

Magnus Henning Bengtson emigrated to the USA in 1888 along with his younger brother Birger. Birger died unexpectedly only a year or so after their arrival, at age 16 or 17, in Ernest Stoneberg's hayloft next door. The boy was working for Ernest at the farm. The circumstances of his death are still unknown. It is believed that Birger is buried in the Swedish cemetery, in Litchville, ND (near the Swedish Lutheran Church).

Henning, though born a Nilsson, changed his name to his mother's "assumed maiden name" of Stoneberg because he though Nilsson (Nelson in the US) was too common in the midwest. We are still filling in the details but Henning apparently started a farm on part of the North Dakota land that had been claimed by Ernest Stoneberg in the 1870's. Henning lived on that farm with his mother Anna Britta for seven years before he married.

Then Henning met an outgoing, humorous young woman named Anna Graalum who worked at the Dahl-Peterson General Store. Anna's marriage to Henning on December 6, 1911 included his mother who helped raise the children, and tend the garden and the chickens. Anna (Graalum) was fully in charge of the kitchen, oftentimes cooking for twenty farm hands.

Henning's children were Hubert (b:07 Mar 1913), Ethel (b:12 Sep 1915 - d:22 Jul 2004), Mae (b:15 May 1920) and Rose (b:24 Aug 1923). Robert S. Oberg Sr. had some contact with Ethel in the 1980's (she was mentioned in his family notes). The descendants of Ethel and Rose have contributed much information and photos to this and other Stoneberg pages.
